Build and track a household budget

The bot turns bank data or receipts into a budget by category, lists subscriptions, and can run a daily check that flags new charges or overspending.

Starting prompt (adapted)

Build a monthly household budget from my connected bank and card accounts or the receipts I give you, using read-only access. Group spending by category, list every subscription with its cost, and suggest where I could cut, with the reason for each. Set up a daily or weekly check that tells me about new subscriptions or categories going over budget. Do not cancel anything or move money without my approval, and never share account or card numbers.

Written for this site from what the cases below did. It is a starting point, not a prompt anyone posted. Fill in the parts in brackets.

What you still do

  • Connect accounts or hand over receipts
  • Decide which subscriptions to cancel
  • Act on the bot's alerts

Where it tends to fail

  • No saving amounts stated
  • The only image is a chart, not proof of cancellations
  • A budget sheet does not save money on its own

How well it's backed up

The posts are text-only claims with no amounts saved, and the one image is a spending chart that does not show any cancellation.
