Watch your card for bad charges

The bot reads your card transactions on a schedule and flags charges you don't recognize, such as a subscription you never signed up for.

Starting prompt (adapted)

Every day, read my new card transactions and flag anything I might not recognize: new merchants, repeat charges I haven't approved, small test charges, and amounts that are higher than usual. For each flag, give the date, merchant, amount, and why it looks wrong. Don't contact the merchant or the bank for me; draft the dispute and I'll file it.

Written for this site from what the cases below did. It is a starting point, not a prompt anyone posted. Fill in the parts in brackets.

What you still do

  • Decide which flagged charges are real
  • File the dispute or freeze the card with your bank

Where it tends to fail

  • Catching a charge isn't the same as getting the money back
  • No amount or refund was reported
  • Only a text claim so far

How well it's backed up

So far this is a single text-only claim: a charge that had recurred for months was caught, with no amount or refund reported.

Text only: 1.
