Find savings to fund a purchase

You name a purchase you did not budget for, and the bot looks for ways to cover it: canceling subscriptions, negotiating a bill down, and finding card bonuses in programs you already use.

Starting prompt (adapted)

I want to pay for [item, about $X] without adding to my budget. Go through my recent bills, subscriptions, and rewards or points accounts, and list ways to cover it: subscriptions to cancel, bills to negotiate, and bonuses I already qualify for, each with the expected amount. Ask me before canceling, switching, accepting an offer, or applying for any card. Save each provider's written confirmation, and keep a running total that separates confirmed savings from expected ones.

Written for this site from what the cases below did. It is a starting point, not a prompt anyone posted. Fill in the parts in brackets.

What you still do

  • Pick which cuts and offers to accept
  • Decide whether to take up a card bonus offer

Where it tends to fail

  • Single text-only claim with no amount
  • Several jobs mixed together, so savings are hard to separate
  • A card bonus is money earned, not a lower bill

How well it's backed up

So far this is a single text-only claim with no amount stated.

Text only: 1.
