Double-check your tax return

The bot reads your tax documents and your CPA's draft or filed return, then lists possible errors and missed deductions for the CPA to check.

Starting prompt (adapted)

Review my tax documents and my preparer's draft or filed returns for the years I name, and list anything that looks wrong or missing: income forms left out, deductions or credits not claimed, items counted twice, or contributions claimed but never made. For each item, point to the document it comes from, explain it in plain words, and estimate the effect on what I owe. Don't change, sign, or file anything; I'll take the list to my preparer, who decides. Leave my SSN and full account numbers out of your notes and messages.

What you still do

  • Gather all tax files into one place
  • Take the findings to the CPA
  • Let the CPA review and edit the return
  • Have the CPA file amended returns where needed

Where it tends to fail

  • Every post is text only; none shows a return or refund
  • The post that started the trend is from a tax software investor
  • Refund amounts are the posters' own figures
  • Built on US forms and accounts such as 1099s and HSAs

Reported savings

$23,700in the first year, across 2 cases

As people report it, converted to USD. Only cases where the provider agreed or the change is reported done.

By what backs the amount

How well it's backed up

No post shows a return or refund, and the post that started the trend comes from an investor in a tax software company. Some say a balance due became a refund after the CPA's changes.
